Hey, John here. As Local Motors Director of Strategic Partnerships my primary objective to create relationships between LM and the companies who sell goods and services that our Rally Fighter owners and enthusiasts want.
We are planning to sell products both here in the Micro-Factory and on our website. I have come up with some ideas and established many relationships already, but the truth is the best ideas at Local Motors often come from our community. For that reason we decided to start running our "Curated Goods Mini-Competitions".
This week we ran two competitions where we asked our community members and facebook group to come up with their best ideas for which cool and unique products we should offer.
The competitions were an incredible success, with several products we are seriously considering offering to our customers. Our winners, as chosen by the LM team, received Local Motors t-shirts.
In addition, if Local Motors does decide to feature a product then whoever originally submitted it will be recognized both in our web store and here in the Micro-Factory where the item will be displayed.
Our winners thus far:
Tuesday:
1st Place: R/Evo with the Joby Gorilla Torch
Runner Up: Rubicontrail.net with the Rotopax Auxillary Fuel Tank
Monday:
1st Place: Micah Donahue with the SeaLine Baja Dry Bag.
We will be running our next Curated Goods Mini-Competition on Tuesday so think of some great products and or after-market accessories over the weekend :) We start taking entries at 9:00am pst.

24 Hours of Le Mans in the Weekly Sketchwall

This coming weekend marks the 78th annual 24 hours of Le Mans, one of, if not the most, prestigious and challenging automotive races in the world.
In honor of this race, an all new Sketchwall Challenge based around the 24 Hours of Le Mans is up and running in the design process section of the Local Motors website.
This is your chance to design the Local Motors Le Mans Prototype class 1 (LMP1) car, and what it could look like if Local Motors were to participate in Le Mans. There is no time constraint for this-- so you could design this for the 2019 Le Mans race if you wanted to, or go retro and design what Local Motors Le Mans car may have looked like in 1939. The sketch-wall challenge is about having fun and improving your skills, so there is no such thing as a bad design. This is your chance to have a lot of fun designing a car around an actual automotive event.
This sketchwall challenge is different from past ones because this one will span 5 weeks and 5 different development steps-- Sketching, creating roughs, creating digital renderings, creating liveries, creating a final presentation. The goal is so that at the end of the project, each participant will have a complete presentation from sketch to portfolio piece around the Local Motors Le Mans vehicle.
This past week marked the first week of the SketchWall Challenge, the sketching phase. This coming week we will move into light marker rendering/ roughs. But don't worry, if you want to catch up, feel free to post your ideas and sketches in the comments section.
So what are you waiting for, grab your pens, and start sketching!

Memorial Day - Thank you to all who serve.
Yesterday was Memorial Day here in the United States.
This is a quick post to say thank you to all who serve our country in the Military.
It's strange for me to think that there were times in each nation's history when everyone knew someone who had fallen in battle. I don't know of anyone personally. I know many others do, particularly my brothers who served in the Navy, and Jay Rogers and Sarah Stokes who work as LM's CEO and CSO respectively - they are both former Marines.
The reason I am not mourning and remembering today is because you all have served so well. So thank you.
This is more of a Veteran's Day sentiment, but as I passed by the cemeteries yesterday that were filled with American flags, flowers and families I realized how blessed I am.
