Back in June Aurel wrote a post(link) about the New age of the Design Process section. Today we are proud to announce to the Local Motors Community that the new age of Design Process is starting to take shape.
In Aurel's original post, he stated "we've decided to focus and develop the new design process approach on 3 specific kinds of projects:
1 - Educational / training projects:
They are based on one thematic and have for goal to develop skills, and techniques from an individual point of view, but also to promote a good relationship and knowledge exchange within the community
2 - "Pre-vehicle build" projects:
The selected projects are analyzed with the community to track possible prohibitory issues or necessary improvements (cost, customer's expectations, feasibility,...). This is a required step before any Build story.
3 - Group projects:
Group projects are very welcome as long as they are based on a clear orientation and schedule. Since style is something quite subjective, it will be important to integrate one or several complementary aspects (innovative concept, engineering approach,...)"
In addition to these three categories we have decided to add a fourth:
4 - Advanced Design Projects:
Advanced Design projects will be projects that have been developed and refined by a community member and have become community favorites. These are projects that may not fit the previous 3 categories, but deserve to be highlighted and could still be evolved and refined. In addition to this, these projects would receive more focused attention from the Local Motors team. We would work closely with the original designer and community to create attainable goals such as blueprints and maybe scale models.
Based on these four categories for projects, we decided to listen to the community and take 2 of the current community favorites and move them into the design process.
Over the past few weeks the community has asked to see Filski's B7 be moved into design process, and a few months back, there were some in the community who felt that the Druck, designed by community member Braunarsch, should be moved to design process. I am proud to announce that today Local Motors will be moving these projects into design process for further development. We will work hard to help advance these designs so they can see their fullest potential. Both designers have stated that despite the fact that both designs are currently in the 3D modeling stage, there remains a lot of work still to be done.
I would also like to point out that Design Process is still evolving but will soon see much more activity in the future. We welcome any suggestions and comments.
PS: Since Ex-Ta-C has been here for a while and represents a lot of work, it really deserves some extra time in the design process section. Don't hesitate to contribute!
